در این مستند دیوید اتنبورو به بررسی ریشه ی حیات بر روی زمین میپردازد، مواردی که در این مستند به انها اشاره میشود عبارت است از: حیات چگونه بر روی زمین آغاز شده، چه چیزهایی باعث تغییر حیات از تک سلولی به پر سلولی شده و همچنین بررسی دوره های زمین شناسی مانند دوره ی زمین گلوله برفی (Snowball Earth) و تاثیر آن بر حیات بر روی زمین و موضوعات دیگر مرتبط در این زمینه.
